Fremantle Traffic Bridge Demolition Engineering
Peritas was engaged by Mainline Demolition to provide structural and construction engineering
services for the staged demolition of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge as part of Main Roads’ Swan River Crossings Project. Originally constructed in 1939, the bridge had undergone decades of extensive strengthening and maintenance works prior to its removal. Peritas delivered demolition sequencing assessments, stages of deconstruction modelling, lift planning and structural assessments of the existing timber and steel bridge elements. The works included engineering support for major span removals, including a 73-tonne steel girder lift over the navigation channel, as well as inspections and technical services during demolition
activities. The project required practical and responsive engineering solutions to safely manage the removal of ageing infrastructure within a complex water environment, supporting the transition to Fremantle’s new river crossing.
