Peritas was engaged by Ahrens to provide civil and structural engineering services for the Hastings Deering Mackay Parts Fulfilment Centre in Mackay, Queensland. Delivered as a major turnkey Design and Construct project, the 55,000m² greenfield development represents one of the largest projects undertaken by the team and provides a significant new operational facility supporting parts fulfilment, storage, sales, and customer service functions in the region.

At the time of engagement, the structural design was already developed to approximately 30 per cent. Peritas worked through the design phase to optimise and refine the original approach, introducing substantial design improvements that enhanced coordination, efficiency, and constructability through to construction. The completed facility includes a 14,000m² naturally ventilated multi-purpose warehouse, heavy-duty hardstands, retail and customer support areas, workshops, offices, amenities, extensive covered awnings, and a double-storey office accommodating 108 workstations.

Peritas also responded to a number of project-specific engineering challenges during delivery. These included accommodating strict floor tolerance requirements for VNA racking, redesigning areas of the facility after the original internal container storage arrangement was replaced with a 26-tonne automated crane storage system within the main warehouse, and ensuring facade and structural elements were suitably resolved for a cyclonic region. A key design change also involved revising the original structural approach from piled foundations to pad foundations, supporting a more practical and efficient construction outcome.

Delivered an optimised and practical engineering solution that improved constructability, responded to evolving operational requirements, and supported the successful delivery of a major industrial facility in a cyclonic region.
