Building a Better World with Peritas

July 27 2023 | Construction
At Peritas, we are focused on building a better world. This allows us to hone in on how our internal operations and design processes have an impact on leaving the world better than we found it. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint through streamlined construction and operation processes.
What does this look like in our work?

Material Choice

We opt for low-carbon building materials, this includes timber, recycled steel and low-carbon concrete.

Material Efficiency

We optimise our designs by using less material, whilst ensuring fully compliant designs that maintain structural integrity. This is paramount to our reputation and quality of work.

Sustainable Construction Techniques

Employ techniques such as modular or prefabricated construction, which can reduce waste and energy consumption. Peritas is heavily involved in modular projects across Australia including the groundbreaking Ibis hotel project.

Energy Efficiency

To implement energy efficiency, we focus on incorporating passive design principles. This takes advantage of using natural light, shade, ventilation, HVAC systems, insulation and windows to minimise energy consumption.

Renewable Energy Sources

We utilise solar, wind, or geothermal energy in our buildings and designs. Peritas has a commercial-sized solar energy panel, as well as energy-efficient design throughout our offices.

Carbon Sequestration

We use carbon sequestration methods to ensure that atmospheric carbon dioxide is captured and stored.

End-of-Life Planning

We don’t just design for an efficient build, we plan for disassembly and deconstruction. This guarantees materials can be reclaimed and reused, rather than later contributing to landfill.

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)

We implement LCA to thoroughly evaluate the environmental impacts of materials and products from inception to grave. This provides a comprehensive assessment of the carbon footprint, whilst servicing effective end-of-life planning.

Green Certifications

We have been evaluating our building procedures to continuously work towards Green Star and carbon-neutral certification.

Building Retrofitting

We focus on renovating and retrofitting existing buildings with energy-efficient technologies. Our current office space was converted from an existing warehouse built in the 1950s. We prioritise preservation and conversion above demolition.

Urban Planning

How we move matters. We construct buildings in areas with existing infrastructure, to reduce the carbon footprint associated with commuting. We always advocate for walkability and using public transport. Our office is situated around the corner from Burswood train station, to help our team commute.

Tree Planting

Peritas regularly partakes in tree planting days. To date, we have planted over 1000 trees.

By monitoring each of these individual processes, Peritas collectively reduces the carbon footprint of each building we work on. We take a holistic approach to understanding the lifecycle of a building – from extraction of raw materials to construction, to use, to demolition and disposal.
Learn more about how we can apply these processes to your next project.

We all have an impact on the world.
Let’s make sure ours is a good one.
